Eroticon2013 Archives

As part of the tradition, Eroticon attendees are asked to fill out a Meet and Greet post. Here’s mine! See who else is coming to Eroticon 2013 in the Meet & Greet link up.

Name: Ruby Goodnight

Twitter id: @RubyGoodnight

Must attend Eroticon 2013 session: Other than my own, “Creative Writing 3 – Short n’ Tweet: A Philosophy of Writing Sex on Twitter with Vena Ramphal”

Bloggers you’d like to be trapped in the lift with: Lift? Oh…..elevator! Hmm. Probably none since I’m not good with confined spaces.

Erotic writer you’d like to write dramatize your life story: Lady Pandorah because her blog is one of my must-reads.

Expected biggest fangirl / fanboy moment: Probably Zoe Margolis, since I appreciate a lot of her from afar, and never got a chance to speak with her last year.

What keeps you awake at nights? Reading adult webmaster forums on my iPhone in bed, a toddler who is teething, mental to-do lists for the next day, and random midnight hungers for chocolate brownies.

UPDATE: If you are like me, you are probably travelling to London sometime before Saturday morning and are wondering what to do with yourself. If meeting up with friendly faces who are attending the conference, chilling out with a few drinks and nibbles, and getting to know folks before the big day sounds like something you would enjoy, then I invite you to come along to the second annual pre-conference get together! No pressure, no pretenses, and no activities planned – just a good old fashioned hang out.

The delicious Molly Moore has coordinated the event which will be held at the Novotel Hotel Bar on 46 Blackfriars Road, SE1 8NZ. We will be there from 7:30pm until most decide to head back to their hotel rooms, which last year was around 11pm. Dress code is whatever you wish to wear. (I’ll be there in something professionalish and sexy.) I hope to see you there!

Writing Sex Right – My Eroticon2013 Event Picks

With Eroticon2013 slightly over a month away, the speaker schedule has been updated and I’m now starting to figure out who I want to see, and who I want to catch on the sidelines for one on one chats. Here’s my rundown on who I plan on checking out during Eroticon 2013, and what I’ll be sorry to miss out!

Saturday’s Session Picks

Eroticon2013 Ruby GoodnightSession 1 – Myth busting: The Submissive Woman with Molly Moore

I’m lucky enough to call Molly one of my friends, and it was at Eroticon 2012 that we met for the first time. Somehow, though, I managed to miss all of her speaking engagement last year. This workshop appeals to me as I do the majority of my writing in the BDSM niche, and while I have a good chunk of my own submissive experiences behind me, it’s always good to see if my writing has been tainted by false stereotypes, over generalization and plain old incorrect information.

Session 2 – This one I’ll probably either decide on the day, or use the time to network with others. Both workshops currently listed really don’t fit in with my line of work, but still look interesting.

Session 3 – Creative Writing 2 with Remittance Girl

While I’ve only met Remittance Girl in passing and never been able to have a serious chit chat about our craft, this girl knows her shit. I’m hoping to spark a few ideas in my head to bring back to my own commercial writing, as creativity sometimes gets lost with all the attention on SEO and sales language.

Session 4 – Writing for the Adult Industry with Ruby Goodnight

Well, I think it’s pretty obvious that I’ll be at this one! Hope to see you there as well.

Session 5 – Creative Writing 3 – Short n’ Tweet: A Philosophy of Writing Sex on Twitter with Vena Ramphal

So much of my affiliate work (both my own, and the affiliates I write for) involves Twitter. I’m hoping to get out of this workshop a way to entice my affiliate account followers to both communicate with me more, as well as want to click through to the web sites. In a world of paid-for-inflated follower accounts and auto-tweeting taking up 90% of the timelines, this is one I’m deffo looking forward to.

Sunday’s Session Picks

Session 1 – Polyamory 101 with Lori Smith and Amanda Jones

One of the niches that I get asked to write about more often lately are polyamorous relationships, especially from swinging dating sites. (One could argue that swinging and polyamory are two very different animals, and this is one thing I hope they explore in this workshop.)

Session 2 – Top Ten Tips for Writing A Sex Blog with Molly Moore

Another great workshop from Molly. As I start to develop my own affiliate websites targeting women, I find my writing delving into the “sex blog” style more often than not. I’m always looking for ways to get more traffic to my blogs as well!

Session 3 – Sex Education 2 with Meg Barker and Justin Hancock

Who doesn’t want to brush up on their sex education? I dare say watching hours of porn a day may have warped my sexual mind a tad. While there isn’t a description of this panel up yet, I’m sure that it’ll be something I can sink my teeth into.

Session 4 – Blogging for Sex Work with Violet Rose, Madam Becky and Ruby Goodnight

While I didn’t plan on being part of this panel when signing up to Eroticon2013, I was asked by the lovely Ruby Kiddell to take part. Looking forward to talking about sex workers on the net!

Session 5 – Sex and the Media with Zoe Margolis and Nichi Hodgsonq

Last year I caught a bit of Zoe speaking about the media and sex, and I was really upset I missed her main workshop earlier in the day. This year I’m not going to do anything to miss it and hope it will be as discussion provoking as last year’s was.

Ruby Goodnight Speaking At Eroticon 2013

Eroticon 2013 erotic writer conferenceI’m proud to finally be able to let my blog readers know that I will be speaking at Eroticon 2013!

From the bio that’s been published on the site, you can probably get the jist of what I’ll be speaking about. Right now, the initial plan is for me to discuss the more commercial aspects of adult writing – working with porn sites, sex toy retailers, as well as ghostwriting.

A lot of the focus at Eroticon is for novelist and bloggers who earn an income through royalties and ad revenue. I’ve often had these writers get in touch with me ‘on the hush’ to find ways of breaking into the commercial field of writing, and what that entails. It seems that sometimes, writing for money (rather than the pure enjoyment of the craft) is a tad taboo. I’m hoping to be able to push that aside for a moment or two, and give those who are interested the means to get their foot in the door when it comes to commercial adult writing.

Ruby Goodnight at Eroticon 2013

Eroticon 2013 Ruby GoodnightNot that I had any doubt that I would be attending, but today it is official. I’ve purchased my ticket to Eroticon 2013. The 2012 event was the premier of this sex bloggers and erotica writer’s event, and I am glad to see that it has been extended to a full two days for the 2013 reincarnation.

According to the web site, Eroticon 2013 is described as “the UK’s only conference for sex bloggers and erotica writers. […] If you are sex writer, blogger, editor, publisher, journalist, performer or artist Eroticon 2013 will be the networking event of the year. Meet with like minded people and leading voices of the erotic industries, make new contacts and learn new skills in a safe and supportive environment.”

Right now, tickets are in the “Super Early Bird” phase, where you can get the ticket for £77.53 for one day (£75 + fee) or £128.78 for the two days (£125 + fee). If you’re a bit stretched for cash at the moment, you can get it on an installment plan. You’ll be charged £50 up from, then two payments of £37.50 (plus fees) monthly thereafter. This Super Early Bird phase of the Eroticon 2013 tickets only lasts until 01 September 2012, so you have around six weeks to get in and get it at the early price.

With the lineup that is already set up for this year, I know that it’s going to be an amazing event. Hope to see you there!
